Director, ASN Post-Graduate Education Position

Dr. Robert Narins, who has served with great distinction as the ASN’s first Director of Postgraduate Education, has decided to step down from this position on December 31, 2004. Because his will be difficult shoes to fill, the ASN is grateful for a relatively lengthy recruitment period. The Society has therefore initiated a search for his replacement. The search committee, chaired by Dr. Tomas Berl, also includes Drs. Roland Blantz, William Henrich, Mohamed Sayegh, and Ronald Falk.

ASN members with an interest in this position are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant must be a Board-Certified nephrologist who has been active in the practice of the specialty and who has distinguished him/herself as an educator. Prior experience in medical education as well as in the design and delivery of educational programs are essential, as are demonstrated administrative and leadership abilities. Key responsibilities will include the development and marketing of educational programs, as well as interactions with the Society’s professional staff, leadership, corporate sponsors, and general membership.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae and the application form (available on the ASN web site, www.asn-online.org) to PGE SEARCH COMMITTEE by July 15, 2003 (E-mail: kcampbell@asn-online.org; mailed applications should be sent to ASN Headquarters, 1725 I Street, NW; Suite 510; Washington, DC 20006).

For additional details about job responsibilities and a complete job description, please visit the ASN web site.

Web Site Enhancements

Database and Web Site Integration
The ASN is pleased to announce the integration of our in-house membership database and our web site. Membership renewals and address changes will now be processed more quickly, as you renew your membership and update your address directly online into our membership database! Members will now find the Membership Directory even more helpful, as it will automatically reflect members’ updated and current information.

New and Improved Training Program Directory
Based on feedback from members, trainees, and division chiefs, ASN has made a concerted effort to update the online Training Program Directory to increase its accuracy and make it easy to use. The meticulous attention to detail of Carol Goddard and Shari Dwoskin have resulted in a comprehensive and reliable listing of the nephrology fellowship programs in North America. We are pleased to announce that the revamped Training Program Directory is now available to all ASN members through our web site.

If you are seeking a fellowship in nephrology, this directory provides a window of opportunity to help find the perfect program for you. You are able to search by specific programs and areas of the country or view all listings, including both pediatric and adult programs. Of course, all ASN members are welcome to use this valuable tool!

To access the Training Program Directory, you must be registered and logged into ASN’s web site, www.asn-online.org. If you have not yet registered, simply click on the Register Now prompt to create your own user name and password. Then, click on Careers in Nephrology and Training Program Directory.

JASN Looks for Additional Reviewers

Another way for you to get involved in the ASN is by volunteering to review articles submitted for publication in our own journal, Journal of the American Society of Nephrology! If you are interested in this opportunity, please let us know by sending an email to the JASN editorial office, bonnie@acceleration.net. Tell us you are interested in reviewing papers in your area of expertise, and please include a list of up to five key words that identify areas in which you would like to review (e.g., transplantation, dialysis, pathology, cell biology, etc.). We want to hear from you!
