On the cover: APOL1 is targeted to the endoplasmic reticulum in podocytes. Live cell image analyses of EGFP-tagged APOL1 (green) G0 and renal risk variants G1 and G2 in combination with ER-Tracker (red) revealed a predominant localization of APOL1 to tubular-like and perinuclear localized membrane structures (details) of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). The images show EGFP-APOL1 fusion proteins, in which the endogenous N-terminal signal peptide was replaced by EGFP. All APOL1 variants showed a similar intracellular distribution. Scale bar and square length of details are 20 μm and 10 μm, respectively. Thomas Wiede, University Hospital of Münster, Internal Medicine D, Münster, Germany
