Frequently Asked Questions about Institutional Subscriptions

My institution has an online subscription to JASN but I'm not able to see the full text of articles. I'm prompted for a username and password. Why is this happening?

When this happens, the IP address for your machine is not being recognized by our computer. This failure is caused by one of three things:

  • Your institutional online subscription has not yet been "activated", or was "activated" for one workstation only.
  • The person who "activated" the online subscription did not enter in all needed IP addresses for your institution.
  • The person who "activated" the online subscription does not realize that some subnets of your institution are routed through a proxy server.

What should I do?

  1. Talk to your librarian, and let them know you are having trouble.
  2. Send us Feedback so we can begin to diagnose the problem.
  1. My library subscribes to the print JASN, and I can't get access to it online. Why?
  2. Your institution has not purchased an online subscription to JASN. Urge your librarian to order an online subscription. Or, your institution has not yet activated its institutional online subscription to JASN. Notify your library that you would like access to JASN, and encourage your librarian to activate the online subscription.

  3. Who from my institution can access JASN?

A site license subscription allows any user connecting from an authorized computer on your institutional network access to JASN.

  4. What is an Institutional Subscription?

An Institutional Subscription is a site license agreement authorizing use at a localized site. A "site" is an organizational unit, and may be academic (non-profit) or nonacademic (corporate). For organizations located in more than one city, each city office is considered a different site. For organizations within the same city that are administered independently, each office is considered a different site.

For example, each campus in the State University of New York system is considered a different site, and each branch or office of UpJohn Laboratories is considered a different site.

  5. How can I tell if my institution has subscribed to JASN?

If your institution has a subscription, you'll automatically have access to the tables of contents, abstracts, full-text searching, full-text display, PDFs, PubMed and GenBank links and more. You'll also see a button at the top of the page confirming you're signed in as part of an institution.

If your institution has not subscribed, you can obtain access through a member subscription or a non-member individual subscription.

  6. Can my institution subscribe only to the online version?

Yes. For more information and to request pricing information, please go to Subscription Information.

  7. Will we still be able to get the printed version?

Yes. The printed version of JASN will continue to be available.

  8. If our JASN subscription expires and at some later date we reinstate our subscription, will we have access to all years of the electronic version?

Yes, when you buy a subscription to JASN, you have access to all years of the database.

  9. How can I access JASN if I do not have access through an institutional subscription?

You may purchase JASN through a member subscription or a non-member individual subscription.
